Job Title: Commercial Carpenter
Job Description

This role focuses on commercial carpentry work across a variety of projects, including banks, medical offices, hospitals, schools, churches, and other commercial buildings. You will handle both rough and finish carpentry, installing and building structural and decorative elements such as walls, doors, windows, floors, trim, and cabinetry, as well as performing drywall installation and finishing. You will work from drawings and blueprints to complete new construction and renovation projects safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rough and finish carpentry on commercial construction projects, including banks, medical offices, hospitals, schools, and churches.
  • Install, cut, and hang drywall, including sheetrock, and complete drywall finishing to a high standard.
  • Frame and build walls and partitions using wood and metal stud framing methods.
  • Install doors, windows, and associated hardware with precise measurements and proper alignment.
  • Install floors, trim, and finish details, ensuring clean, accurate, and professional results.
  • Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to plan and execute carpentry tasks correctly.
  • Construct and install frames and forms for new construction and formwork needs.
  • Perform cabinetry work and wood framing, including layout, cutting, assembly, and installation.
  • Use tape measures, hand tools, and power tools accurately and safely throughout all tasks.
  • Participate in demolition and removal of existing materials as needed to prepare areas for new construction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with site and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other trades and team members to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
Essential Skills
  • 3–7+ years of experience performing finish, rough, and commercial carpentry.
  • 3–7+ years of experience working with tape measures and a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • 3–7+ years of experience performing drywall and sheetrock finishing.
  • 3–7+ years of experience doing frames and forms on construction projects.
  • 3–7 years of experience in cabinetry, wood framing, drywall, and door installation.
  • 3–5+ years of experience performing metal stud framing.
  • Strong ability to install, cut, and hang drywall, doors, windows, walls, and floors.
  • Proficiency in reading and working from drawings and blueprints.
  • Solid knowledge of rough carpentry and finish carpentry techniques.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Experience with door installation, including framing and finishing.
  • Ability to perform demolition tasks as needed for remodel or new construction work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in new construction environments, including formwork and framing.
  • Background in commercial build-outs such as banks, medical offices, hospitals, schools, and churches.
  • Competence in blueprint reading to plan layouts and material needs.
  • Experience with drywall finishing, including taping, mudding, and sanding.
  • Experience in cabinetry installation and detailed finish work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Work Environment

This position is based on active commercial construction sites, including banks, medical offices, hospitals, schools, churches, and other commercial buildings. You will work with a full range of construction tools and equipment, including tape measures, hand tools, and power tools, while handling tasks such as framing, drywall installation and finishing, door and window installation, cabinetry, and formwork. The role involves physical, hands-on work, often standing, lifting, and working at various heights. Work hours follow typical construction schedules and may vary by project needs. You will work closely with other trades and crew members in a fast-paced environment that prioritizes safety, craftsmanship, and timely completion of projects. Appropriate workwear suitable for a construction site, along with required personal protective equipment, is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tuscaloosa, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
